Wedding in the forest

A magnificent oak tree fell some years ago near Knapsø and today lies beautifully positioned between grasses and trees. With great respect for the tree, we have created a simple platform with an accompanying staircase – a natural setting for those of you who wish to be wed in the middle of the forest.

The wedding venue is generally available for free use in connection with a booked event at Herthadalen. If you wish to continue the day with a reception after the wedding ceremony, we will of course be happy to help create a seamless transition (see additional prices below).

Over the years, we have helped to create the practical framework for many weddings in Herthadalen and have seen how lovely and atmospheric a wedding can be when you can create the framework yourselves.

PRACTICAL

With a view over Knapsø and just a stone's throw from the restaurant, we have created a wedding venue nestled amidst the natural surroundings of the forest. Here, the trees, light, and changing seasons form an atmospheric backdrop for outdoor ceremonies – informal and intimate.

The wedding will be arranged by the bridal couple themselves, but we will of course gladly help where we can. Should the weather prove to be somewhat unpredictable, we will take care of practical details such as umbrellas, so the moment can be enjoyed in peace and quiet.

PLANNING/

In 2013, the Folkekirke (Church of Denmark) approved the possibility of outdoor blessings for a two-year trial period. However, the location must be approved by the priest and have a special connection to the couple, and guidelines can vary from parish to parish. Therefore, please contact your local priest to clarify the specific arrangements.

The rules for civil ceremonies held outdoors vary from municipality to municipality. We recommend that you contact the Citizen Service in your municipality to be absolutely sure of the current rules and options for who can officiate the ceremony.

Plan B, C & D

The weather follows the rhythms of nature – and that’s precisely part of the charm of holding a wedding in a forest. Clouds can drift by, the sun can break through, and the atmosphere changes with the light between the trees. Many dream of saying ‘I do’ under the open sky, and with the right planning, it can be done with peace of mind.

For an outdoor wedding, the weather is always a factor we take seriously. Therefore, we will go through alternative solutions together, so that there is always a Plan B, C, and D ready. This way, you can lean back and be present in the moment – no matter how the day unfolds in the forest.

RECEPTION

Once the ceremony is successfully over, the day can continue in a calm and natural flow, with time and space to be together. Some opt for a simple reception following the ceremony, while others proceed directly to dinner and celebration at the restaurant with family and friends.

However you wish to shape the day, we help to create a smooth transition and a cohesive experience. This allows you to lean back and be present in the moment – and let the day unfold at your pace.

Reception

If you wish to begin your big day with a reception, this can be added to our evening or lunch packages. The reception will be served outdoors on the terrace overlooking Knapsø (weather permitting). The event is 3 hours long.

Snacks

Serving 3x different snacks & salted almonds.

Crown roast baked in glazed puff pastry.
Tartlet with whipped goat's cheese and trout roe.
The season's vegetable tartare from Herthamarken.

Drinks

Organic cava, wine, fizzy drinks, beer & juices.

WEDDING CAKE/

We have a skilled local pastry chef, Kirsten from Cake Creations, who by agreement, make the finest wedding cakes. If you wish to bring your own wedding cake, we will, by agreement, provide refrigeration, crockery, setup, napkins, and clearing up (DKK 25 per person).
