More and more couples are choosing to get married outside of the church, for example, in nature. We have assisted with the practical arrangements for many ceremonies in Herthadalen, and we have seen many examples of how lovely and atmospheric a ceremony can be when you can create the framework for it yourself.
In 2013, the Church of Denmark approved the possibility of outdoor church weddings for a trial period of 2 years. However, the location must be approved by the priest and have a connection to the engaged couple. Contact your local priest for guidelines. The rules regarding civil outdoor weddings vary from municipality to municipality. Call the Citizen Service in your municipality to ensure you are aware of the rules regarding the person who will marry you. Buildings that come and go – that's the Danish summer. That's what Thøger Larsen wrote in 1914, and almost 100 years later, the text is still relevant. Nevertheless, many dream of an outdoor wedding ceremony. And it can be done without frayed nerves, but with good planning – and a little prayer to the weather gods. If you choose an outdoor wedding ceremony, the Danish weather will always be a risk factor, and therefore it's important that we go through plan B, C & D.
