THE HISTORIC AVENUE

Every morning on the way to work, we drive through a piece of living history. Ledreborg Allé starts right from Roskilde and stretches like a green ribbon through the landscape. Some may recognise it from the Tour de France in 2022. The almost six-kilometre-long avenue is planted with around 2,000 linden trees and is considered Northern Europe's longest. The oldest trees – closest to the castle – are up to 300 years old.

At Ledreborg Castle, the avenue changes and becomes Slangealléen (Snake Avenue), which, with its beautiful, gentle curves, continues out towards us and ends at our dear neighbours in Sagnlandet. It's fascinating to think about how horse-drawn carriages in days gone by would have rattled along the same path – on their way to Whitsun festivities in Herthadalen, boat trips on Knapsø, and dancing in the dance pavilion.
